Dinosaur Feathers - Whistle Tips
$8.00 - $13.00
Brooklynites first heard Dinosaur Feathers back in 2008, when Greg Sullo ventured out armed only with a guitar and drum machine. A full band eventually joined him, letting his love for Tropicalia and West Coast pop fully bloom. Dinosaur Feathers’ second album, Whistle Tips, is as easy and smile-inducing as a day in the park. There are intricate polyrhythms, marimbas, pianos, and Sullo’s effortless, graceful voice, which dips and rises, sambas and cha-chas, pulling harmonies and twittering guitars along like a big brother teaching a sibling how to skip in the sand. “Young Bucks” feels like Animal Collective meets Gerry & The Pacemakers, while the infectious “Beatcha” is a chewy, delicious tune built on robust vocal hooks and smart, sturdy percussive moves. The skittering cowbell and percolating bass line of “Your Move” has a taste of old-school funk-punk. “City Living” starts with a cavernous, stark, effects-heavy combo of guitar notes and drums that morphs into a bubbly electro-funk dance tune, and “Certain Times” is breezy and airy pop until it becomes a wild guitar-led skronkfest.
