“The story of Phoolan Devi is as incredible as it is tragic. On Valentines Day in 1981, Phoolan Devi was the leader that lead three different gangs to hunt down the treacherous Ram brothers to avenge the murder of her lover, who was murdered in cold blood as she slept by his side. This is but one small chapter in her incredible life story... She was born into the untouchable cast and sold at the age of 11 to marry a man in his 30s. Sexually abused her entire childhood and made into an outcast, she finally found true love in the leader of a gang of bandits and joined his gang. She was a real life feminist Robin Hood, who stole from the rich and gave to mostly poor indian women.
Phoolan spent time in and out of prison and eventually became the leader of the gang and even returned to the family that gang raped her as a child and murdered them all. She was jailed for 11 years, until the Indian government actually sympathized with her and let her go free. She was almost like the Indian Leadbelly! In the latter part of her life, she returned to her village, ran for government and became a member of Parliament!!!!! In 2001, she was murdered - apparently shot in revenge of one of the people she killed on that Valentines Day massacre she was responsible for.
I have always wanted to write something about Phoolan Devi, she was born in Utter Pradesh in India, which is also the province where my family comes from. I really think she should be remembered and praised for being such an amazing person. The world needs more people like her. She is part gangster, part politician, part terminator, and all woman!!! Long live Phoolan Devi!” – King Khan
